“Oda Para Sa Mga Minamahal Ko”

Saan man patutungo
Lagi pa ring laman ng puso
Mga pinagsaluhang pangako
Kailanma’y hindi ibuburo.

Kayo ang dahilan ng bawat bakit
Inspirasyon sa buhay na hitik
Ayokong magpatumpik-tumpik
Sa biko’y kayo ang tanging latik.

Panalangin sa Maykapal
Ano mang kakaharaping sagabal
Huwag kaligtaang sa Kanya sumandal
Iwasang bumitaw sa mga pangaral.

Halos igupo man ng pagod at antok
Ni minsan, hindi naisip magmukmok
Sa puso’t isipan kayo ang nakasuksok
Nagbibigkis, animo’y yantok.

Harinawa’y umusad, puno ng pagpapala
Bawat tagubilin, palaging maaalala
Samo’t dalangin ng bawat ama’t ina
Mga anak, kailanma’y di mapapariwara.

Madalas mang pagsabihan
Walang nais, kundi inyong kabutihan
Mapabuti’t magkaroon ng kabuluhan
Sa tuwina’y, laman ng puso’t isipan.

Susie Bangles-Baldo is a proud Igorota who belongs to the ethnolinguistic group Kankana-ey and a mother of three, two curious lads and a vigorous lassie. She spent her childhood savoring the blessings of simplicity in the ili; sidking-aparador, Chinese garter, bebe-ey (bahay-bahayan), climbing the caimito and swimming in the river were among the sundry fondest reminiscences that contributed to her yearning of going back to basics and reviving Indigenous poetry.

Susie is interested in the advancement of indigenous mental health and wellbeing that is grounded from the grassroots. She appreciates all sorts of writings (genially calling it as #KaisipangMalaya); believing that these are expressions of a person’s innermost thoughts and feelings, longings, hopes and dreams. Poetry is viewed as a vehicle that succor in reconnecting the dots from the past to make the present-day an opportunity for unlearning, relearning and development.

Painting images were done by Susie’s daughter Aaleyah Reign at 4 years 3 months.

Aaleyah Reign is a sweet and vigorous four-year old patootie, whose energy is brimming. She gets enthusiastic whenever she is closer with nature. She scribbles and draws a lot; their walls, floors and tables at home are the living evidences of her creativity. She adores animals of various shapes and sizes: puppies, turtles, fishes and even bugs (beetles, butterflies, caterpillars). She is always on the go and often her mom’s keen sidekick in their trajectories towards unearthing life’s amazements.
